Counselor

Self-awareness Creates Strength
Having a full-time counselor at Lone Tree Elementary is an important part of supporting the social and emotional growth of our students. Through social-emotional learning (SEL), we help students build the skills, confidence, and connections they need to thrive.
Students also learn through Wayfinder, a social-emotional learning program that helps students understand themselves, build meaningful relationships, navigate challenges, and discover their strengths. Our goal is to give every student the tools and confidence they need to feel supported, connected, and ready to grow.

Tina Jewell
My career in education started in California where I taught middle school. I then went to Texas and taught elementary school and spent 11 years as a school counselor. I have been at LTE since 2016 and in my current role, once again as a school counselor. I enjoy working with students individually, in small groups, or as a whole class.

Wayfinder
Wayfinder is a social-emotional learning program that helps our K–5 students develop the skills they need to understand themselves, build positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and navigate challenges with confidence.
Through age-appropriate lessons and activities, students learn important skills such as:
- Recognizing and managing emotions
- Building healthy friendships and relationships
- Developing empathy and understanding others
- Making thoughtful and responsible choices
- Setting goals and developing a growth mindset
- Problem-solving and handling challenges
- Building self-awareness, confidence, and resilience
Wayfinder lessons are designed to meet students where they are developmentally and provide practical skills they can use at school, at home, and in their everyday lives.
As school counselors, we use Wayfinder to support students' social-emotional growth and help create a school community where every student feels known, supported, and empowered to thrive.
