Self-awareness Creates Strength
Tina Jewell
My career in education started in California where I taught middle school. I then went to Texas and taught elementary school and spent 11 years as a school counselor. I have been at LTE since 2016 and in my current role, once again as a school counselor. I enjoy working with students individually, in small groups, or as a whole class.

Sources of Strength - Link here for information from the Sources of Strength site.
Family Support - People in your family, or friends who are like family, who you are close to and support you. Who in your family can you go to for help? Fill in the orange area of the wheel with a family member’s name or draw a picture of your family member.
Positive Friends - Positive friends lift us up, make us laugh, are honest with us and are there for us when we need them. Who are the friends who can help you when your day is good or not so good? Fill in the yellow area of the wheel with the names of positive friends or draw a picture of your friend.
Mentors - A mentor is someone older who is cheering for us in life. Mentors teach us things and do things with us. Mentors help us be the best version of ourselves. You can think of a teacher, a coach, or an older student who encourages you and cares about you. Who is a mentor you can go to for help? Fill in the green area of the wheel with the name of a mentor or draw a picture of your mentor.
Healthy Activities - Healthy activities are things like playing sports, outdoor activities, playing games, reading, art, and music, and playing with your pets. Healthy activities help us regulate our emotions. What is a healthy activity you like to participate in? Fill in the dark blue area of your wheel with the name of the healthy activity or draw a picture of the healthy activity.
Generosity - Generosity can look a lot of different ways, from donating money or volunteering your time, to being kind to other people. Things we do at our school that are generous are leadership projects and saving our uneaten food for We Don’t Waste. What is something you do that is generous? Fill in the gray area of the wheel with ways that you are generous or draw a picture of your generosity.
Spirituality - Spirituality can be practiced in many ways, but the main thing about spirituality is that it lifts up our spirits and helps us feel we are connected to something bigger than ourselves. One way we can practice spirituality is by being thankful. Practicing thankfulness can change our brains and help us notice more good things that are all around. What are you thankful for? Fill in the purple area of the wheel with what you are thankful for using words or by drawing a picture.
Physical Health - Physical health is all of the things that make our bodies healthier. Think of things that you do every day to keep your body healthy like exercising, brushing your teeth, eating healthy and getting a good night’s sleep. How do you keep your body healthy? Fill in the light blue area on the wheel with pictures or words of ways you keep your body healthy.
Mental Health - Mental health strengthens our minds. When we are feeling good we stay in touch with our emotions and keep feeling good. When we are having a hard time and our emotions feel really big and overwhelming we can use our strengths from when we are feeling good to help us. Things we can do to strengthen our minds are taking deep breaths, going for a walk or look at a calming jar. What can you do to strengthen your mind? Fill in the red area of the wheel with words or pictures of what you do to feel better when you are worried, angry or sad.
